AFGE Local 17 Celebrates the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

AFGE Local 17 was honored to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We were incredibly grateful to have Svante Myrick as our guest speaker. While a student at Cornell University, Myrick was elected to Ithaca’s Council. After graduating, he was elected mayor at age 24, Ithaca’s first Black mayor and the youngest mayor in the history of the State of New York. He entered his third term after receiving 76% of the vote. In January 2022, Myrick accepted an offer to serve as the President of People for the American Way, succeeding Ben Jealous.
