Our dues are currently $18.25 per pay period — modest compared to most AFGE locals, which run in the $21–22 range. Most of your dues go to AFGE national headquarters and the AFGE National VA Council for their organizing, lobbying, and legal work; the rest stays with Local 17 for arbitration, training officers and stewards, and member notices. A one-year commitment

When you join, your dues authorization runs for a full year before it can be cancelled. That's set by the contract. After the first year, you can revoke it during your annual window. Standing together works because we don't quit on each other.
