Join Our Annual MLK Day celebration

We are pleased to invite you to our annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration, taking place virtually on Tuesday, January 13, at 12:00 p.m. This event is an opportunity for our union family to come together to honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy of service and solidarity.

Discover the importance of our MLK Day celebration

Dr. King reminded us that a just society depends not on individual achievement alone, but on our willingness to care for one another, to serve the common good, and to recognize dignity in every person.

At a time when our country often feels divided and increasingly focused on self-interest, his message of service, moral courage, and shared responsibility remains as relevant as ever. Our MLK Day celebration is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and recommit ourselves to those enduring values.

Special guest speaker at this year’s MLK Day celebration

This year, we are honored to welcome Dr. Blair Kelley as our guest speaker. Dr. Kelley is a nationally recognized historian, author, and public intellectual whose work examines race, labor, and social movements in American history. She currently serves as President of the National Humanities Center and previously held distinguished faculty positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Kelley is the author of the award-winning book Black Folk: The Roots of the Black Working Class and is a frequent commentator whose insights have appeared on NPR, MSNBC, and in national publications.

Why join AFGE Local 17’s MLK Day celebration?

We hope you’ll join us as we honor Dr. King’s legacy and reflect together on the values of service, justice, and community that continue to guide our work.
