Employment Protections for Federal Whistleblowers

Local 17 works diligently to represent its members and emphasizes education, training and retraining to keep busy union stewards abreast of options as issues arise in the federal workplace.

On October 25, 2022 labor attorney Richard Renner of Kalijarvi, Chuzi, Newman & Fitch, P.C., presented an informative lecture to members of Local 17 as well as Local 25 in person and virtually on Employment Protections for Federal Whistleblowers. The Whistleblower Protection Act protects disclosures, participation and refusals to violate law, rules or regulations.

Lawmakers have recognized that “It is critical that employees know that the protections for disclosing wrongdoing is extremely broad and will not be narrowed retroactively by future Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) or court opinions. Without that assurance, whistleblowers will hesitate to come forward.”

As always, union members may contact the union to discuss any workplace concerns.
